Barbarian | -~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~- The Barbarian is a 'Combat Specialist', sort to speak.Well to put it roughly, he's a 'Tank' with skills/spells that revolve around physical combat. He's usually the one you'll find running directly into combat and acting as a 'Meat Shield' to the support or less agile characters (If in group gameplay). The barbarian regenerates mana by killing enemies, But.. has virtually no spells.. Skill Tree : Blunt Weapon Skill - Requirement(s) : Available from the start. Able to mow down groups upon groups of enemy hordes with the single chanting of a spell.. Ahh what a wonderful class indeed.. With the ability to mass cast spells, and imbue weapons.. This class is a top notch choice for a supporting character. I knew you could!! With many MANY possibilities, this guy gets my sign of approval : >=) .Haha.. Also one of the only two characters who can wield a 2-handed sword.. Such raw damage from the spells. Fire weapons is a nice touch. Its unfortunate that i couldn't max it, but the other skills are more effective with that last point over the last portion of fire weapon. Fire seems to do the most damage to all of the *mobs in the game. Just devistating damage with all these maxed. Concentration is a must. Cone of Fire does great damage, and is even greater eye candy. *Note : Mobs stands for , Monsters or Bosses. -~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~-. |4e. And it doesn't fall back on the Disease bolt, Darkness combo. Very melee based. Summon skeleton makes a GREAT 'tag-team' partner, heavy damage. Also what's a Shadow Knight without Harm Touch?.. 1 shot kill anyone? Shield Bash is just.. Well just great, it's overall just a killer skill at lvl 10, nevermind when it's maxed, just a great stun and damage. Along with Engulfing Darkness. -~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~-. |5. TeamWork!! | -~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~- Probably one of the most fun aspects of CoN is the ability to play with up to four people on one PS2, using the multi-tap.. (Two people is also great!) This section will cover combo's of class set-ups.. (Which is being worked on at the moment).. Also advice on different things to keep in mind when playing multiplayer games.. Such as Boss Strategys in teams, and support skills that are noteworthy.. Basic Team Reminders : 1.) Stay Together! - Obviously the most important one. 2.) Aura Anyone? - Auras are one, if not the best group skills. 3.) Blocking is your friend! - Blocking is great!, If you have the patience you'll be damn near untouchable! 4.) Dodging.. - Very underated.. Very useful when backing out of a bad spot is your only option, and you don't want to get hit. Also if timed right can be a great 'Counter Attack' type move! 5.) Sharing is fun! - Even though your group wont have combined gold, that doesn't mean you can't help fund the poor, and help equip the weak. 6.) Have a plan! - If your going into a boss fight that you know will prove to be a challenge.. Don't go into the fight with the idea you'll win with brute force. 7 out of 10 times it wont work. If the boss can kill someone in the group in a few shots, it's wise to lure the boss away from this person. Use some elements if your group is mostly made up of range/magic users!, slow down the boss etc.. 7.) Keep your distance! - Sometimes it pays to keep your distance in close fights, perhaps bring a secondary weapon if your primary weapon is of melee type. Some creatures and bosses can, and will, damage you beyond belief. 8.) HAVE FUN! - This should be the number one thing to keep in mind at all times. I still laugh my butt off, when im playing my ranger with friends. There near a wall, i shoot the wall with a fire arrow, and set them on fire. =], You've got to have fun. Or the whole concept of games get's thrown out the window. 9.) Team Gold?! - While there is no gold share option, or trade window; there are ways around not being able to share gold by simply dropping an item your going to sell, to whom ever you were going to lend money to, and have them sell it. Or you could just buy it for them =). -~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~-. |6. Walkthrough | -~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~- Welcome to the Walkthrough section.. It's very brief and straight to the point. You wont find : 'Once killing the 3 orcs, head left 3 steps and..', here.. Nope nope.. Just straight, 'upon getting this, This is where you need to go', Etc.. Perhaps later on i'll make it very more detailed.. I mean this IS a Action/Rpg and all, but.. It's a hack and slash game.. Note : Im very, VERY bad with remembering names in action/rpgs like this.. So if someone would be so kind as to help me with names i would be greatful. -- Introduction(taken from manual) : Kelethin, the treetop city of Faydwer wood elves, is under siege! An army of goblins and orcs have cornered the peaceful elves, forcing them to seek help from the outside or face being driven from their cherished home. Your auspicious arrival in Kelethin during its darkest hour gives the wood elf king himself Liethkorias, the glimmer of hope he's been seeking. He pleads for your assistance in turning back the assault, even as the flaming shot from the invaders' catapults rain fire all around. The harried elves have little to offer you in the way of supplies, but their situation is desperate, and your chance for adventure and glory is great! Can you make the difference and turn the tide of the battle? What lurks behind this brutal and uncharacteristically well-organized campaign against the wood elves of Faydwer? -- [Act I] At first you'll meet with Liethkorias, basically tell's you a horde of orc/ogre/goblins army has attacked the land. You clear out the elf's camp of orc/ogre/goblins. Then you meet some rangers who are holding off anymore orc/ogre/goblins from proceeding to the camp. You clear out the orc blocking the cave where the orc/ogre/goblins have stolen the elf's supplys, and clear the cave. You then find out that the elf rangers were able to push back the orc/ogre/goblin attack, back to a gate. The gate, however, is blocked by a locking mechanism. You now have to find and unlock the 'mechanism' and allow the elf army to push the orc/ogre/goblin attack, back even further. You then find that the captain of the army is trapped with half of the elf army in the middle of the orc/ogre/goblin army's 'side' of the field. There are catapults purposly being fired in a certain fashion to prevent any advancements to the area in which the captain is trapped. You destroy the catapults, and find out the captain and his crew had held off the 'ambush' style attack. You hear that their is a nameless orc who has stolen a scroll that no ones been able to decipher yet from a great alchemist(? I think that's what he was.. Correct me if im wrong). You go to track down this nameless orc and retrieve the scroll. The abandonded cavern type structure you find he's hidding in, seems to be inhabbited by spiders. After fighting spiders you'll come across the orc. After beating him up for a few you'll find out it wasn't enough to kill him and he escapes. Leaving behind his battle plans, which you bring back to the captain. The captain takes the battle plans and has one of his men decode it and find out what's going on. Meanwhile he asks you to get rid of a nearby shaman who is reviving all the orc/ogre/goblins the elf army is killing. After doing so you'll return to find that the battle plans explains about the nameless orc traveling to the underworld, and also directions etc.. You find out that the elf that decoded it is in the cavern type structure you were in before and is uncovering the secret stairs down to lvl 2. You have to then protect him and guide him to the entrance to the underworld. Once there he finds a secret switch and opens it, opening a gate allowing you passage to the underworld. The elf then departs now that his job is done. Upon entering the gate you find the nameless orc waiting for you, with a little... Surprise.. He then tells you after the loss he suffered to you, he wants to make your death a slow and horrible one. Unfortunate for him, he can't stick around to watch so he departs. You now have the fight his 'Surprise' in the shape of a giant spider. [Act II] You then come across a dwarf village being terrorized by mammothants which are half your size, and double the dwarfs size (Very understandable why they fear these ants). Your told the only way to defeat the ants is to take out the queen. You will also come across a sensative dwarf who feels the ants are only acting the way they are because of these things called lava riders. He explains the noise the ants hear equivalent to that of, putting a put on someones head and banging it with a spoon over and over.. and over again. After fighting and army of ants and killing off the queen ant. You return to find out that the nameless orc has been ordering ships and shipping stuff to someone in town. You also find out that this someone in town, has ordered a ship from one of the dwarfs and is willing to pay top dollar for it to be built quickly. You also find out that there's a pipe broken which is needed to build the ship. After a little bit more talking with everyone in town, you will be told that the town noblemen's daughter has gone missing below the lava fields. You also learn of a great vampire who lives nearby. Anyway, you set off to the lava fields to find the girl, and fix the pump (Why fix the pump? You plan on getting the dwarf to give you the boat instead of the 'someone in town').Once you get down you will find out that there's this guy (forget his name) and he has golem pets.. Who get very aggressive when the lava's flow stops. You also find out that the bridge to the lava pump has been destroyed by the orc from before, and that the dwarf who can fix it can't find the part or ride the lava runner. So you head on down to the 2nd floor of the lava fields pick up the part, and convince the lava runner owner that you have what it takes to control such a thing. You get on the lava rider and cross the lava lake to fix the machine. Upon returning towards town, you'll find out that the golem sleeping infront of this castle like structure has been awoken and a group of golems appear behind you, as if to ambush you. The guy who i forgot his name will stop his pets from attacking and allow you passage to the lower level of the castle like structure for getting the lava to flow again. Once you arrive, you'll notice the noblemens daughter there. Also finding out that she is searching for her lost kittens. You have to clear out the area the kittens are in and then lead them back to the girl. Once you've returned all the kittens back to the girl, you'll see a cutscene to the lvl 2 of the dungeon your in. Head back to town to receive your reward for rescueing the noblemens daughter. You then head back to the dwarf who first told you that the pipe was broken, you'll find out that he wants the reward you recieved in return to give you a ship. One catch though. You will find that you need someone to navigate you through your way to find the orc. Head back to the lvl 2 dungeon and fight your way through the hordes of undead. You'll eventually get to the vampires castle. Upon doing so you'll meet up with the 'lord vampire's' wife. She will ask you to do a favor and in return she will help you find the orc you were looking for. On your way to the beachside to find the plant that she asked for, you'll notice a dwarf in the prison part of the prison. This is the 'Navigator' you need, but he's locked up. Upon returning with the plant she will take you to a ledge where you will see the 'lord vampire' talking to the orc about there plans, you find out the orc had been shipping the vampire blood with the ships he had ordered before. the orc also states that he will return to the vampire, and that things will have changed totally the next time he sees him. Your quest now is to find the 'lord vampire' and get the cell key to let the navigator free. Upon reaching the vampire he'll let open a trap that opens the floor and forcing you to fight your way through a small army of werewolf type creatures back up to him. Once you reach the vampire he will fight. Once you have killed him head to the prison portion of the castle and unlock the navigator. Protect and lead him to the exit beachside door, and to your new boat. Set sail and try to catch up to the orc! [Act III] Upon the start of the act you will see you've been stranded on a tropical.. Well.. Stranded on an island. You'll soon find out that the island is made up of 'slavers' and human slaves. The slave who tells you all this information also asks you to bring him a horn, and that in return he will teach you how to use it. There's broken portals that only the slaves know how to work. The slavers use the slaves to 'run errands' sort of speak for them. You will also hear that the orc is also on the island! and was seen last heading south of the island your currently on. Head in that general direction and enter the caves. You'll soon come across a slave and a few slavers/creatures. Save the slave to find out he's the shopkeeper!, he'll ask you to save his brother who was also enslaved. He will also tell you that he's heading back to the island to try to gather whats left and open up his shop once more. Head to the broken portal not to far from where you saved him. The portal works!, but is only one way. Keep going for a few and you'll meet up with a mermaid who asks you to find a conch shell for her, and that she will reward you for it. Keep going , past more caves. Soon you'll come across a slave who, isn't really locked in the cage, but rather chooses to stay in the cage because of all the slavers around. Upon clearing them out he'll head back to the 'town' on the island, and give you a key that was buried under the cage he was 'locked' up in.He will also tell you to stop by the 'town' and visit him. Once you talk to him after he gets back to town, he'll give you the conch shell. Return to the mermaid and she will give you the ability to breathe underwater only in this area. Head underwater and make your way through. You'll come out in a desert area where you'll find a broken portal, that well despite the past broken ones will not work. head up into a temple and meet a mummy who will tell you that you need to break the seal in a temple lower the broken portal to release a curse upon the temple to pass. Once you put out all the fires in the lower temple and release the curse, head back to the mummy. Where he will ask you to kill him, but to do so in an honorable fashion. Also known as a battle. After the mummy falls, head through the door and you'll emerge in a platform in the sky. Make your way through it and you'll find yourself infront of a towering 'zeus' like monster. After killing it,set free the shopkeepers brother, whos a little insane. He'll tell you about how he found the horn, and hide it underwater. Also he'll tell you how an evil being now possesses it. Now your job is to find all the peices of the raft he made that are scattered around the area. Once you get all the peices he gives you directions to the place and wishes you luck. Head to the end of the land where the dock is, and get on the raft. Make your way through the caves and you'll find the horn. Head back to the first island you landed on. Talk to the 'guy', only to find out it was the orc! He'll turn into his true form, and use the horn. Calling forth all of the worlds hate and starting the onslaught of Norrath. [Act IV] The act starts off with you in an odd place.. After hearing the trapped 'women' warn you and ask for your help, you realize your getting soo close to the orc!. Upon your arrival you'll meet with a shopkeeper whom prices are SKY-HIGH.. He will offer to lower them in return for a favor. The favor? You ask? Just a basic 'get these pieces for me', favor..*He will ask you to retrieve Seven Trinkets, scattered throughout the dungeons/city of the area. Once you've got those, return them to the shopkeeper.. You'll find out that the shopkeeper has been bound to a stone. A very rare and evil stone, in which he couldn't get rid of without the 7 trinkets;they have a different incantations written on them. He'll then remove it from himself, and.. Well give it to you. He'll also lower the prices of his shop (Which i might add didn't seem like much a drop to me..). You'll notice the name. It's a shard of Innoruuk hate. Walk up above the shop through the alley, and you will be greeted by a group. Nothing too special about them, as to how many times you've seen there type before. After defeating them go through the doors in which they came from. It's a coliseum! You'll have to fight a room full of enemys. Upon killing them, you'll have to fight another group of ogres (not as big as the last group). After defeating those, you'll be greeted by the nameless 'Orc' being. He'll tell you that he wishes to make a game of your life, and have you fight a dinosaur/reptile like creature(This guy's a HUGE pain). Once you've killed the dinosaur/reptile hybrid, you'll pull the other shard from it's body thats needed to open the door in the upper left of town. Do so, and you'll find that your in some sort of hanging/graveyard type area. Make your way through the area, nothing really special here. Once you've made it to the end of the long curvy path, The 'women' from before will contact you telepathically telling you to hurry!. Jump down the hole and prepare for Act V. *Note : Read the Q&A, If your missing one last trinket [Act V] At the start of the act, you will notice yourself in an hell-like area..This place is referred to as the 'Plain of Hate'. Upon arriving you'll see the 'Orc' from before once again in his human-like form. You'll see the army upon army of undead. You'll also find that the vampire you have killed before has risen once more!, and is resurrecting all that is killed in the war on Norrath. You'll then get to meet the great Innoruuk. You'll see him scold the 'Orc' for failing multiple times. Innoruuk, will also state that he knows of the 'Orc's plan to become "Evil's Child". He'll command his goat like minion creature to do what he pleases with the 'Orc'. So.. The goat like minion then takes the 'Orc's soul instantly killing him, and shoots his soul like an arrow with a huge bow, at you. Breaking the bridge your standing on, and killing you also. You'll awaken in the Plains of Air (a heaven like place), And find that the 'women' who has been telepathically leading you, up until now. Has a sister!, and her sister has resurrected you from the dead and brought you to the plain of air. She'll tell you how her kind are unable to be involved directly in the fate of the world (Man, this sounds familiar), and that your the worlds only hope in defeating Innoruuk! She also doubles as a shopkeeper(How convenient!)! Once you've bought/saved/ and done all that voodoo that you do, have her send you back to the plains of hate. Here you have to fight your way against waves of creatures you've met before and a few new faces you've never met. Once you reach the castle like structure you'll find out that the only way for the door to the castle to open is to defeat the goat like creature that had killed you before. Head up from the back of the 'castle' like structure, to the broken bridge from before. Here you will meet the goat creature, who will give you the basic 'Im so evil, i shall eat you' speech. Once you've defeated him head into the castle. Here you will find that Innoruuk has locked the door leading to the 'women' and himself on a cliff. Here to unlock the door you will need to free enough souls (the door is being kept shut by draining souls) to 'unlock' the door. There are four different paths to take, take whichever you wish, and do the 'protect the souls' type quest. Making sure to protect them until they reach the portal to the plains of air. You might not have to do all 4 paths if you prevent enough souls from dying. Once the souls are free, the gate shall open. Head through the door and enter. You'll meet Innoruuk finally , face to face. You'll also notice that the 'women' from before is chained up here. She'll warn you that you must destroy all 5 seals on this cliff to release her from her chains. Once you've done so run to where she was chained and she'll teleport the both of you back to her sister on the plains of air. The sisters will tell you that Innoruuk cannot be harmed by anyone who has any form of hate in there heart. They will tell you that you, also, have hate in your heart. They tell you where you can cleanse this hate you have inside of you (From where your standing go up past the portal and hang a left). You'll be cleansed of all the hate you have. Head back to the sisters, you are now ready for the final boss fight!.Head back to where you first 'fought' (Didn't really fought.. Avoided him and destroyed seals, the last time you meet him). Innoruuk doesn't realize that you have removed all the hate in your soul. He'll go on to tell you that anyone.. No matter whom they believe in (seems like a religion reference), if they have the slightest bit of hate in there heart. That they 'belong' to him. You'll then engage in battle, in the last boss fight of the game (Refer to the Tricks of the Trade section for tips on this final boss). After defeating him you'll have the pleasure of watching him twitch and bug out for a few minutes then explode. Congratulations on successfully completing Champions of Norrath! -~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+ |8. Tricks of the Trade | -~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~- Here i will explain different 'Tips and Tricks', ranging from : When picking up things to sell what things are worth picking up, or leaving behind, Which attributes are precious to which class, And basic techniques. Effectiveness of Elements! : Lightning- Great element (Perhaps one of my favorites). Slows down the unit as well as there attack speed. Did i mention it's cool to look at? Heh!, This is one of the more devastating elements.. Unless your prepared that is.. Watch out for enemies equipped/using this element. Ice- Another good element to have. Slows down the unit and there attack speed, but also has a chance to shatter your target (Your basically freezing them) thus preventing them from being revived. Fire- A pretty decent element to use. Doesn't slow down the unit like ice and lightning does, But does damage over time; You could call it 'Burning Damage'. (Update : I'd like to thank Sng of IGN for helping me out here, i've been told fire damage does not renew it's damage over time if it's hit before the previous burning time has run out with a fire weapon. Once again Thank you for your help, it is very much appreciated) Poison- Ahh yes.. Poison. Depending on how much poison damage we were to talk about would determine how useful it is. Another damage over time. Not that great as a weapon add-on but.. The spells are GREAT!. Boss Strategy(s)! : Innoruuk- This guy can be either Very Easy.. Or Very Hard..It all depends on how you come into the fight. The one thing you'll notice that is very noteworthy is that, every once in awhile he'll drop his hammer and be 'locked' into trying to pick it up. How do you do this you ask? Easy! By doing Fire/Disease/Poison damage to him He takes damage over time. So by now you've figured out that to make him drop his hammer, doing constant damage. This is the key to defeating this guy. Constant damage makes him drop his hammer constantly forcing him to try to pick it up, and not allowing him to pick it up and swing.Just remember, damage over time is your friend! Other spells that knock-back are also great substitutes. Spider- This ones VERY easy.. No matter your level, it all comes down to your amount of patience. At the start of the fight you should be below it, run up and around it. Since all of it's attacks have to be facing you and due to his large size, it takes him some time to turn around and when he can't turn around anymore he'll jump. So by now you should have realized that hitting him with his back turned is your best option, just stay real close, hugging (if you will) close to him, he eventually will jump and turn in mid air, this is when you'll have a little time to get to his side and swing, go further more to his side (he's turning so your constantly moving) and swing. Rinse, Repeat. Vampire- The vampire deals Massive damage.. No matter how you slice it.. Whether it's his chain of combo's that not only knock you down but also knock you back (making you fly half way across the room), Or his disappearing act, where he 'reappears' by flying down upon you biting you it seems (correct me if im wrong). Your best bet is some sort of ice to slow his movement speed when he's just normally walking, And some basic 'street smarts' (Or basic common knowledge). When he disappears.. Do NOT stand in one spot. Move! Once he 'disappears' it will take him a few seconds (which feel like an eternity) before he strikes. Take this time to use and potions, defensive/offensive skills/spells before he strikes. Once he strikes, strike back with whatever you've got.. Slowing his move- ments like i stated above is very effective here; as he walks around a bit before he takes flight again. Orc King- Haha.. Whoever thought of putting this guy as an act one boss.. Is.. Well nuts. If your a melee character, this will be a difficult one. On the other hand, if your a ranger or someone who uses attacks at a distance, plan on doing alot of hits n runs. Cold doesn't last too long against this guy, He has an enchanted weapon, He charges alot of the time, and his chain of combo's (or constant attacks) make this guy a pure pain in the butt. Not to mention the 'battle field' you fight him on is usually one of two setups (One of them is very.. VERY small in space.. which leaves very little room for you to run, and making it an all luck fight most of the time). If your lucky enough to get the 'hand rail' 'battle field', this will be Cake, and just a matter of time before he's defeated. Just use the rail to your adva- ntage, ALWAYS keep it between you and him. Bows work great here, as well as magic. Stun such as Cleric's Blinding Light are NICE here.. Note : Usually before the Orc King goes into his charge, he'll stop hold his bardiche in one hand, and taunt you. Keep this in mind. Death Knight- This guy's a push over.. Just avoid his summon (Or pet as some call it). The rest is basically cake. He's one if not the best early bosses to 'farm' or to do 'runs' of. (Farming or to some called '[boss name here] runs' are terms used to refer to when a person saves near a boss, kills the boss, saves to a differe- nt slot, reloads before the boss, and imports your character from after you killed the boss. Rinse , Repeat) I don't see any reason this guy should give anyone trouble. Just incase though, if i get a request for a specific strategy for him, i'll gladly add it. Greater Minion- Another push over, read 'Death Knight' strategy. Except he does not have any summons. -~+*+~-.-~+*+~-. |9. Q & A | -~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~--~+*+~- Here i will answer any questions that relate to the game, that i happen to be asked. Once again you can email me at : iLLuSioNaLEnTiTy@Aol.Com with any questions you need answered. Just label the topic something like; Question about CoN, Or something to that extent. Question : "I CAN'T FIND THE LAST CATAPULT! HELP!!" My Answer : Ahh, The last catapult?, You've probably overlooked the one where you first entered the area. You have to ignite the barrel on the wagon, in-between the tree's.. Question : "How come there's a voice delay in the games dialogue?" My Answer : Well.. This seems to be an issue usually related to older PS2s, I believe there referred to as 'Launch' Ps2s.. It's not that bad of a problem, because by the time he speaks, you've read the text and probably hit start =P. Question : "Where should i put my attribute points?! Im a LvL ?? ????,Help!" My Answer : Well this is a question i see A LOT, (Believe it or not)and i feel that depending on what you plan to do with your character.. You should learn what each Attribute does and concentrate on the one(s) you feel will be more important for your type of character. Question : "Damn!, I've got 6 Trinkets! Where's the last one!?" My Answer : The two spots people miss them the most is - 1.) The spot in the upper left portion of the main town. (Right at the entrance/exit of the two caves) 2.) In the second 'hidden' part of town, hidden somewhere in a corner. (This is the one i missed when i played for the first time. The 'hidden' part of town i speak of, is the part where you have to go through a series of caves to get to..) Question : "Where do i get the ruby from in act ii?" My Answer : You get it as a reward from the noblemen , for saving his daughter. You need this ruby to trade it for a ship, from another dwarf in town. Here's a little description of each attribute and what they do : Strength- Affects how much damage your character delivers with a physical blow during a melee combat, as well as how much weight he or she can carry. Intelligence- Helps determine the amount of mana your character has available for activating special abilities, as wel as the rate at which he or she regenerates spent mana. Dexterity- Affects your character's accuracy during combat with melee and ranged weapons, as well as the damage your character causes with a ranged weapon. Stamina- Helps determine the amount of health your character has and the rate at which he or she regenerates health after taking damage. -~+*+~-.-~+*+~-.-~+*+~-. |10.
