(How it's used: Press triangle to read it.) 3/31/2040 Power outages and blackouts are becoming a daily occurrence. The equipment is too old to be reliable any longer. A thorough inspection of all equipment is scheduled for next month. 4/30/2040 Inspection of all power-related equipment revealed faulty wiring as the main cause of the recent power outages. We'll ask the director to contact headquarters regarding the problem, but they'll probably just tell us to focus on mining efforts. In the meantime, we're looking into system malfunctions that will hopefully prevent future outages. 5/31/2040 A strange fog has been appearing in different areas of the facility. The problem seems to be tied to the ventilation system and the person in charge of the work area, Mr. Dato, has expressed his concern. Other than this, oxygen shortage problems that plagued the facility since its inception appear to have been solved and mining operations are going well. 6/30/2040 The fog continues to fill the facility, but doesn't seem to have any impact on oxygen levels. A report regarding the situation has been sent to headquarters by the director, but their response was just to push ahead with mining operations. I have a bad feeling about what will happen if things remain as they are. Yellow Chemical Comment: The warning label on the container reads "do not mix." (How it's used: Press triangle to read it.) 2/11 I purchased some things for the upcoming trip, and as usual, it's me who has to take care of all the packing. It was silly of me to think he might lend a hand. We're heading out to the space port tomorrow, hopefully without too much of our usual quarreling. 2/15 Even on this trip nothing has changed, he is preoccupied with his reading and we've barely spoken to one another. I'm not going to expect anything from him anymore. Why did I marry someone like him? If only we could go back twenty years and start over. One more week until we go home. 2/19 I'm so tired. My head is throbbing and the rest of my body aches terribly. Something happened to the shuttle and it crashed. I drifted in and out of consciousness for a few days. My husband is nowhere to be seen. 2/22 I'm inside the lunar facility where the shuttle crashed. Physically, I'm feeling better, but my husband is still inside the shuttle. The door to our room won't open. I regret having argued with him recently. Perhaps he has already passed away. Why did this terrible thing have to happen? 2/23 This entire facility is deserted, I don't think there is any hope of a rescue. We buried the dead in the graveyard. The door to the cabin still won't open and there haven't been any responses to my calls. I've settled myself in a small area that leads down to the cemetary. I think I will pray for the deceased... 2/28 All the food is gone and I'm very lonely. He was selfish until the end...leaving me all alone here. There seems to be little point in holding onto the gift I bought for him. I'll get rid of it tomorrow. Tie Pin Comment: It looks brand new. The initials N.S. are engraved on it. (How it's used: Give to Nancy Spinel after the letter.) Bent Employee I.D. Card Comment: The card is made out of a soft metal alloy and is bent in half. (How it's used: Put it on the hot machine in the oxygen production plant.) Daily Report Comment: Daily report logbook. It must have belonged to a worker here. (How it's used: Press triangle to read it.) My promotion to executive employee went through today and I just received my new ID card. The card is made from a soft "form memory" alloy and is a garish golden color. You'd think something like this wouldn't be necessary in a work environment where everyone needs to be ready to fill in wherever they are needed, but that's corporate wisdom for you. Much has happened since the accident; a new type of mineral was discovered, oxygen production levels have increased dramatically, and a strange fog is spreading throughout the facility. There hasn't been any time to rest. I hope things will quiet down soon. The search to uncover the cause of the fog continues, but no leads have been found so far. There were reports of fog in the space port today and some people claimed to have seen ghosts. Everyone is exhausted, but headquarters is still insisting that mining operations go ahead as scheduled. When I last spoke with a colleague back on Earth, he told me that the director had been in contact with headquarters regarding their pressure to meet mining production quotas to the exclusion of all else. The director has worked tirelessly on this project, but hasn't seemed himself lately. There are reports of him wandering about the facility clasping the stone and muttering to himself. My executive employee status was revoked today. Mining operation delays, as well as my lack of success in locating the fog's source were given as the reasons. Oddly enough, I am actually relieved. I've discarded my executive employee ID card and am just a normal worker again. My first job now will be to see what can be done about the fog accumulating in the space port. Executive I.D. Card Comment: There is a magnetic strip across the back of the card. (How it's used: Swipe it through high level ventilation control devices.) Level 3 Key Card Comment: Level 3 is imprinted in the yellow bar on the front. (How it's used: Swipe it through door locks marked level 3.) (How it's used: Charged in Battery Room.) Vehicle Battery Comment: Large capacity battery. It is fully recharged. (How it's used: Put it into the slot in the Generator Room.) Purple Diary Comment: The silhouette of a cat is drawn on the cover. (How it's used: Press triangle to read it.) 2/12/2044 It's been five years since he passed away, yet people are still after his inheritance. Just today, a young man stopped by, claiming to be a distant relative. He was so persistent that I finally had to call the authorities. Ruthie is my only family now. Tomorrow we leave on our space trip. I know they hope something will happen to me. 2/17/2044 The shuttle crash has left us stranded on the moon. I'm convinced it was the greedy people after my inheritance who schemed up this nefarious little "accident." They must have hoped to collect the insurance money. The other passengers seem nice enough, but I can't trust anyone. Ruthie and I must find somewhere safe to take refuge. 2/20/2044 Ruthie and I made it into the space port lobby, we should be safe here. She is such a dear and I'm glad she has finally calmed down. The music box I discovered on the way here plays a song that was my late husband's favorite. Just listening to it has helped me relax. Bell Comment: A small metal bell. The handle is in the shape of a cat. (How it's used: Ring it near the ghost of the cat.) Crew Logbook Comment: It looks like a journal kept by members of the shuttle's crew. (How it's used: Press triangle to read it.) 2044/6/8 Khristina Pegma We leave to explore sector five today. The crew list is as follows: -Sergei Descloizo -Nikolai Ivanov -Khristina Pegma -Dimitri Euxen -Natalia Riskaya -Igor Hinggan 6/14/2044 Igor Hinggan So far everything is going according to schedule. Our present course is clear of debris, so the crew took time off to compete in a 10k run on the treadmill. Descloizo bested the rest of the crew and came in first. We'll continue training until our scheduled stop in sector three tomorrow. 6/19/2044 Dimitri Euxen Exploration of sector three complete. Nothing special to report. 6/20/2044 Natalia Riskaya We're running dangerously low on fuel. This is all my fault, if only I had checked the gauges more thoroughly. We're trying to come up with a solution now. 6/22/2044 Nikolai Ivanov We've located a building on the moon's surface. According to our records it appears to have been deserted. We may be able to obtain fuel for the shuttle here. The decision to search the building was reached after discussing it with the commander. Tomorrow we all go inside. Music Box Comment: There is a picture affixed on the inside of the lid. (How it's used: Give it to the ghost that was banging on the glass.) Pendant Comment: The picture of a kind looking man is inside the locket. (How it's used: Give it to Natalia.) Cigar Comment: Cigar given to a shuttle crew member by the commander. (How it's used: Give it to Igor Hinggan.) Host Radio Comment: Wireless communications device. It is functioning normally. (How it's used: Give it to the commander.) Level 4 Card Key Comment: Level 4 is imprinted in the green bar on the front. (How it's used: Swipe it through door locks marked level 4.) The name "Descloizo" is engraved on it. (How it's used: Give it to the ghost of Natalia in the Crew's Room.) Laboratory Key Comment: An odd shaped key. The word "laboratory" is etched on it. (How it's used: Insert it into the door in the Renovation Area.) Electronic Organizer Comment: It's old, but is still working. (How it's used: Press triangle to read it.) New mineral discovery Chemical composition check incomplete Deep red hue Extremely high oxygen content Oxygen shortage resolved Wish granted Fog appearing, doesn't seem toxic Facility operating normally red stone sacrifice Must keep operations on schedule Claudia can join me here then Accidents increasing Mining quotas below expectations Mine has to take priority facility deserted food supplies depleted stone not enough everyone food wish granted red eat everyone dead food gone stone >MEMO ORB, the secret lies in these colors. Red Chemical Comment: The warning label on the container reads "do not mix." (How it's used: Drop onto the icy door on the lunar surface.) Rosary Comment: Priest's rosary necklace. (How it's used: Show it to the ghosts of Geoffrey and Cayla.) Observatory Key Comment: Metal key with the word "observatory" etched on it. (How it's used: Unlocks the door in the observatory foyer.) Passenger's Letter Comment: Norman Spinel is the named signed at the bottom. (How it's used: Give to Nancy in the cemetary at the mine. Triangle to read.) Nancy, After twenty years of marriage, I wonder if I ever made you happy, unfortunately I'm not sure that I have. Work has occupied so much of my time throughout the years that I know we've lost touch with each other. I can only imagine how much you've had to endure while married to someone like me. My only hope is that you find it in your heart to forgive me. Please know that I am truly sorry and want to spend more time with you. I'm sorry I was not able to tell you this in person. I hope things are well. We continue to face new challenges here every day, but I'm determined to see it through. As you know, building a lunar facility was a dream both my father and I shared. I have every intention of making sure the project is a success. I realize my leaving just before the wedding was abrupt, and must have hurt you terribly, but as soon as everything is in order here I will come for you straight away. Please be patient just a little while longer my dear. I will write to you again soon. Richard Osmond --- NOTES -CHARACTERS- Claudia Selfer (Female) 1. So if you're wondering what was in the flask, it was whiskey.* *In the English version, Dudley Tungsten asks for "his flask," but in the Japanese version, he simply wants liquor. Though its never specified WHOSE flask it is in the Japanese version, so perhaps it is Dudley's after all. Nikolai Ivanov *In the Japanese version, his name is Chrysoberyl Ivanov. Chrysoberyl is beryllium aluminum oxide, commonly known as "cat's eye." Nikolai sounds more Russian, don't you think? Marcel Aron. *In the Japanese version, his name is Monzo Aron. Another good name change here.* Katarina and Katrina Pollucs *In the Japanese version, their names are Katarina and Clarina Pollux. Note that in the spoken dialogue, Jacob also says Katalina instead of Katarina. The name Pollux is from Greek mythology. Castor and Pollux were two twins of the god Zeus and the mortal Leda.* Jacob Pollucs *In the Japanese version, his name is Yanush Pollux.* Ali Covellin *In the Japanese version, her name is Aki Covellin. If you read her data in the notes, her name is written as Aki. Perhaps it sounded too Japanese, so they changed it at the last minute.* Nick Getchell *In the Japanese version, his name is Nice Getchell. Good name change here too!* Igor Hinggan *In the Japanese version, they called him Igory instead of Igor. Whoops!* Paolo Dato *In the Japanese version, he is Elio Dato. Natalia Riskaya *In the Japanese version, her name is "Sukuterudo Raiskaya." Sukuterudo? Well, another good name change! Actually I did some research and sukuterudo is the Japanese spelling for a mineral called skutterudite, a mineral ore composed of cobalt and nickel. I don't think Skutterudite is a common Russian name, but then again I might be wrong.* Dimitri Euxen *In the Japanese version, his name is Alya Euxen. Wow! Alya is actually a Russian name... Where's the mineral connection that was there with the other Russians, then? Well, Euxen is a shortened version of Euxenite, which is Yttrium Niobium Tantalum Titanium Oxide.* Ruthie. *In the Japanese version, the cat's name is Rutile. Rutile is also a mineral, a titanium ore. Perhaps that wasn't friendly enough sounding for the cat's name in the US? Or maybe they wanted to get rid of all of these weird names based on minerals* *Various bits of dialogue are altered... "The air smells great out there..." is changed to "It's great to be outta that cage..." Minor stuff of this nature. I won't list every minor change.* Rosary. *The priest's rosary description originally said "Used to offer prayers to the goddess..." In the English version, it says "Priest's rosary necklace." Why it was changed is up to speculation.* --- CHEAT CODES These codes were provided by "joel" from the message board. Thanks joel!
