Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance – 11/4/04 Version 0.9 This is a really good game, but as many companies are known for doing, they forgot to add a “Skip Cinema button” for the times you die or have beat it enough you don’t care about the cinemas. That, in my opinion, is its only flaw. (that and they give the enemies the ability to block with weapons and shields, but not the player.) It’s easy to play and fun with massive levels and not with out its points of challenge. The game is very straightforward and the puzzles are not hard at all. Almost all of them are solved by breaking barrels/vases, killing the enemies in the room or using a key. So a nice simple hack and slash game you won’t be pulling your hair out on cause you can’t solve a puzzle. Even the boss puzzles are easy, hit this make light appear, hit them into light what could be easier? So Why am I even bothering writing a FAQ at all? Mostly, the collectables, and for those people who despite their best efforts can’t figure out the puzzles. I know I’ve kicked myself a few times after reading a FAQ that some one made at the answer that was so obvious but I couldn’t see it. I won’t be putting codes in because the game is really easy and really doesn’t need cheat codes. And I won’t be putting in instructions because the buttons are so straightforward that it’s not that hard to figure out. Anyway, enough about how simple the game is. (if you want to use this for a website, personal use, toilet paper, I don’t care. I’m not going to be petty and chase you down or destroy your life for some simple little game walkthrough.) For those that don’t like spoilers, ( I don’t have hardly any story content listed) I’ve made all the challenges with * and the levels listed with ** so you can search for ** and it will skip to each level. ** Introduction: Rome This is a very straightforward training level. Just follow the paths by following the prompts to jump, rope slide and eventually pull a lever as you defeat enemies at stations along the path. You will eventually come to your first champion (have black health bars). Defeat him then continue to the coliseum where your last set of battles for this level will take place. You will fight two champions here. ** Elysium: Gateway Hub You will meet Romulus and Remus, told the task you are to complete and given your starting weapon, the Gladius. The nearby crystal will be your first challenge. * Herculean Challenge: Kill all enemies in 100 seconds Reward: Strength of Hercules You will fight against the foes you just met in the introduction level so this is not a difficult battle. You receive the Strength of Hercules power in this challenge. This will make you move faster and hit harder while it last. It will also allow you to break the various chest and barrels with the red fist icon on them. ** Level 1: The Isle of Titans Move to the right to battle the Sparto, they are easy so don’t use your Strength yet. Now run all the way to other side of the beach. Activate your strength and smash the chest to get your first treasure item, a titan tablet. Follow the path to your First Statue Challenge against Delos. * Partial Heath-Up Challenge: Kill all enemies in 60 seconds Reward: Ability to receive partial heath up item drops. Foes that have health drops on them will now have red armor. As you continue you will be in a cave. You must simply fight groups of sparto to get a key, unlock the nearby pedestal then cut the revealed rope. This will be done four times. On the way to the first rope you will find a challenge. * Sword Gauge Challenge 1: Kill all enemies in 90 seconds Reward: Sword Fight Gauge level 1 (activates the said gauge) The Hercules barrel near lock three holds a partial heath up. Most of the specialty breakables have some sort of buff or health item in them so I wont mention them again unless they have a collectable item in them. Continue cutting ropes until you get to the end, then jump the gaps after fighting the last of the Sparto. Your now on some rocks near some broken ships. Walk on to the boat and jump to its other half for a challenge. * Titan Tablet Challenge 1: Kill all enemies in 65 seconds Reward: Titan Tablet Now, follow the beach to another entrance to the cave containing a stash of barrels and vases. Your goal is to find the one that has the key. Nearly every set of breakables has hidden Skeletons in them, keep defeating skeletons until you find the key. Along the wall between the last to stones is a level hidden by breakables. Pull it to open the door above you to access the next challenge. * Health Slot Challenge: Kill all enemies in 90 seconds. Reward: Max Health Increase (increase max health by one slot) Return the way you came and unlock the door. As you enter the next section, you will another challenge. * Double Damage Challenge: Break all Herculean Barrels in 90 seconds Reward: Ability to receive x2 damage drops (Foes that have health drops on them will now have blue armor.) Continue to follow the path until your outside again. You will find a Blood Meter Refill Skull here. it will always refill your entire blood meter when you hit it. It generally means there is a puzzle nearby needing a godly power to progress or a group of enemies that could be tough. In this case, you will need the power of Hercules to break the barrels blocking the rope. Cut it to release the ship. Board it from the right side and continue down the path. When the path forks, head right over the plank then down to the beach. (the other path leads to a locked gate you can’t effect yet) You will find another titan tablet in a vase on the left side of the beach. On your way back up the path (or before heading to the tablet) head over the plan leading to the ship for another challenge. * Health Slot Challenge 2- Kill all enemies in 60 seconds Reward: Maximum Health +1 Return to the path and follow it to the next section. Follow the next path to the locked gate. Continue up the ramp the left and fight the skeletons for the key. Remember this place for when you get the Axe. Return to the locked gate, and pass through a large room to your next challenge. * Double Armor Challenge: Break all Herculean Barrels in 70 seconds Reward: Ability to receive X2 armor drops (Foes that have health drops on them will now have white armor.) Return to the room to fight some more Sparto and the Fetter that appears. Defeat him and receive his Great Axe. The axe will break the more resilient breakables. You can’t return to the other broken wall yet, so use the axe to bash through the one on the left. You will find a chest under the walkways here containing one of the Emperor’s Coins. Take the path near the hanging weight and jump on, dropping you down to the next floor and opening the cage holding the mask. Fight the wave of Sparto then the shades that appear to open the gate. You are now on the other side of the locked gate from before. Walk away from the gate for a challenge. * Titan Tablet Challenge 2: Kill all enemies in 60 seconds Reward: Titan Tablet Return to the gate and head up the stairs, then down another set to a lifeless challenge circle. Return to the main area for a fight. Afterwards you will have the key, so go unlock the gate. Go back to the plank and return to the building where you found the Fetter. Before entering there though, take the ramp to the left to get a new weapon challenge. * Sword Challenge 1:Kill all enemies in 100 seconds with your sword Reward: Primus Gladius- Sword of Champians Now return to the mask room, which is now inhabited by shades. Take the other path now and kick down the plank to get the Jupiter Idol. Return to the bottom floor and jump down the hole where the weight was, then return to the lifeless challenge circle and place the Idol to end the level and return to Elysium. ** Level 2: Titan Stronghold: Tablet X4 CoinX1 Head through the crack in the gate and enter the Argos Statue challenge. * Quad Damage Challenge: Kill all enemies in 100 seconds Reward: Ability to gain X4 damage drops(Foes that have this drop will have blue armor) Then continue to the next section. Soon in the path a piece of wall will fall blocking your return to the entrance. You will find a Blood Gauge skull here. Defeat the enemies to drop the gate and head to the left wall. Jump over the gap and climb the column to a lever. After a second set of foes you’ll be free to cross the barrier. Step on the door plate to proceed. In the next room you’ll battle some Psychocompos. Their defeat signal the Shadows to come. You will have to break the new active Herculean Symbols to stop the flow of darkness. When the task is complete and the path is open. There are two challenges in this room, one by each door. * Sword Gauge Challenge 2: Kill all enemies in 100 seconds with the sword Reward: Sword Fight gauge Lvl 2 (adds more panels to the gauge) The other side of the door where you find this challenge has a chest containing a Titan Tablet. * Health Slot Challenge 3: Kill all enemies in 130 seconds Reward: Max Heath +1 After completing them head to the next area. Don’t bother heading down the stairs yet, as there is nothing you can do yet. You will see a vase along the wall standing on a ledge. Break it and walk the ledge turning onto the first metal beam you come to. There is a Blood Meter Refill Skull here as well as a chest containing a key here. The metal beam just to the left of the box leads to another challenge. * Health Slot Challenge 4: Break all Herculean Vases in 140 seconds Reward: Max Heath +1 This one is a bit harder that most because you have a lot of vases to break and the enemies are tougher. Remember to only beat the Cyclops enough to fill your gauge then break vases. If you concentrate on killing the Cyclops first, you’ll never make it. It helps if you have a full Blood Bar when you enter and I’m convinced that’s why they put the Bloody Gauge Refill there. Anyway… Now return to the stairs and head down. At each lock you will teleported to a small platform where you will battle Cyclops for a key. The final one will lower the cage around the lever. The lever starts the large gears working opening a bridge and lowering a path to the vase the game showed you as you entered. The vase contains another titan tablet. As you approach the bridge a dark portal opens, enter it for a challenge. * Axe Challenge 1: Kill all enemies in 130 seconds with the axe Reward: Imperator - Master axe The barrier is now gone so you can proceed. Take the stairs up and defeat the Cyclops to drop a part of the gate. On this floor you will find a chest containing one of the Emperor’s coins hidden in the bushes near the challenge. * Health Slot Challenge 5: Kill all enemies in 65 seconds Reward: Max Heath +1 Now head to the dropped gate and jump down. There is another challenge waiting in the far back of this area. * Titan Tablet Challenge 3: Kill all enemies in 70 seconds Reward: Titan Tablet Defeat the skeletons for the key and to drop the gate. Unlock the door and proceed. You will find a challenge as son as you enter this area on the right. * Axe Gauge Challenge 1: Kill all enemies in 100 seconds with the axe Reward: Axe Fight Gauge Lvl 1 As you proceed you will be blocked by shadow walls. Defeat the shadows to get enough blood then hit the gate with the Herculean strength. The Fetter you will soon meet knows how to use dark magic and will drain the life of the nearby psychocampos to refill its health bar. Continue to the end of the path across the broken floor for another challenge. * Titan Tablet Challenge 4: Kill all enemies in 110 seconds Reward: Titan Tablet This is the final Tablet, you can benefit from this as soon as you return to Elysium. Slide down the rope to the next set of platforms you have to jump across where you will find another challenge. * Health Slot Challenge 6: Kill all enemies in 70 seconds Reward: Max Heath +1 Defeat the next shadow wall to pass into the final chamber. Boss: Phobos – God of Fear He protects himself in a shadowy form making him invulnerable to attack. You will have to dodge his attacks until he gets weak and needs to rest. His final attack before resting will always be a Jumping drop kick move. Repeat until you have enough blood stored up to hit him with Herculean Strength. This will take three hits for an empty bar. After hit once with Herculean strength he gets a new move, he will stream a green energy at you which can be dodged by rolling under it as it comes near. He only uses it once cycle (a cycle being ended each time he has to rest) and is usually the first attack he will make at the start of a new cycle. After your second Herculean hit the battle is over. You now receive the first of four parts to Rome’s life force. And a new challenge to accept in the Elysium fields. ** Elysium: Gateway Hub Go to the Titan Head in front of the first area and place the tablets to unlock a new challenge in the isle of the titans. You will find it in the cave wall right after the first gate among some barrels. * Sword Gauge Challenge 4: Reward: Final Sword Gauge ** Elysium * Plutonian Challenge: Kill all enemies in 110 seconds Reward: Power of Pluto (allows you to drain life from tagged enemies when they die) This will cover your current power gauge with a blue line when you have herculean strength. You can use Herculean strength even when you have the power of Pluto as the currently showing power by pressing the button twice instead of once. ** Level 3: The Edge of the World Follow the lower ridge to the right and you will find a challenge. * Amulet Challenge 1: Kill all enemies in 60 seconds Rewards: Amulet Continue forward until you meet the lost, defeat them and move on. You will see a statue you can’s challenge yet, a cage, and some small urn looking things on the ground that you can’t affect yet. Continue to the small platform by the torches. Continue to fight lost until both torches are lit, giving you the Gemini Blades. Still unable to effect anything, proceed to the challenge point. * Gauntlets Gauge Challenge 1: Kill all enemies in 110 seconds with gauntlets Reward: Gauntlet Fight Gauge level 1 Continue into the cliff wall, which will close behind you. Walk to the right and you will see on of the urns with a skull floating over it near the entrance as well as a challenge * Sword Challenge 2: Kill all enemies in 65 seconds with the sword Reward: Trojanus Gladius – Sword of the Trojan Approach the urn to activate it. You need to hit when the power of Pluto is active. Enter the now open gate. You will have to hit the urns to turn off the flame jets allowing the Fire Elementals to spawn. After cutting off all three jets, jump down to the next area where a Blood Gauge refill and two challenges await. Health Slot Challenge 7: Kill all enemies in 60 Seconds Reward: Maximum Health +1 * Gauntlets Challenge 1: Kill all enemies in 150 seconds with Gauntlets Reward: Nemesis Scythes You will be ambushed as soon as you enter the open area beyond the gate. Defeat them all to open the next gate at the end of the upper path. Step on the pressure plate to lower the spike guard and activate the urns below you leading back to the first area. The area is now swarmed in Fire elementals that you need to clear out by shutting off the fire jets. Shutting off all 5 opens the gate around the vase which has a Emperor’s Coin. You can now Challenge the Carcus statue. * Quad Armor Challenge: Kill all enemies in 120 seconds Reward: Enable X4 armor drops Now go through the opened door into a temple. Defeat all the Sparto for the key to the door leading into a room with a stream of alva running through it. Defeat all the Fire elementals to lower the spike guard. Then jump across. A fight with more elementals lowers a cage revealing a pressure plate that opens the door on the other side. Follow the path to a bridge crossing a misty chasm. You will find a Pressure plate and a challenge. * Axe Challenge 2: Kill all enemies in 75 seconds with the axe Reward: Aquila – Olympian Battle axe Now step on the plate to open the door across the lave stream. Fight your way back to the door and pass through. Right by the door on the left is a challenge. * Amulet Challenge 2: Kill all enemies in 65 seconds Reward: Amulet Follow the path where you will be ambushed by 2 fetters made easier to defeat by the the Blood Bar refill. Then slide down the rope. You will be in a pit lined with cyclop skeletons. Go to the back to the challenge ring. * Health Slot Challenge 8: Kill all enemies in 70 seconds Reward: Maximum Health +1 Walk back to the bit and the skeletons attack. Defeat them all to light the three torches, lowering the gate. The cliff wall closes behind you leaving only one way to go. You will pass a challenge point as you go. * Axe Gauge Challenge 2: Kill all enemies in 50 seconds with the axe Reward: Axe Fight Gauge Level 2 Your progress will be blocked and you will have to fight to lower the spike guard in front of the rope. At the bottom keep going until you find another Challenge. * Gauntlets Gauge Challenge 2: Break all Herculean Barrels in 75 seconds Reward: Gauntlet Fight Gauge Level 2 Continue fighting and jumping until you get to the arch at the end where you will meet Phobos Again. Boss: Phobos - God of Fear His attacks are the nearly the same as ever. He has a new attack where he spins the darkness around him and follows you like a tornado. He will also teleport to get closer to you now. Your goal is to break the red glass columns with Herculean strength, then we he is resting, knock him into the light pillars that they hide. After his first exposure to light, he begins shooting his green energy attack after each cycle, ( The cycle here ends when he is knocked into the light). Keep knocking him into the light until the battle is over. With Phobos banished, another part of Rome’s Life force is restored. ** Elysium * Jupiter’s Challenge: Kill all enemies in 110 seconds Reward: Power of Jupiter (this power is a lot like the Strength of Hercules, It has no speed boost but it hits all nearby enemies. It also breaks Jupiter Breakables.) ** Level 4: Abode of the Lost: Amulet X3 Follow the path and Jump over the pyreflies, then jump back to activate the ambush. Turn off the urns then defeat the Cyclops Skeleton that appears to get the key to the door across the gap. This next part could be annoying if you had trouble with the last battle. If you did you will have to start over. After you beat the Lost, head down the rope. You will see the statue of Acus at the bottom but he won’t let you challenge him yet so head left, there is a challenge. If you don’t have a full blood meter, Use it to power up your Blood meter to Jupiter and then lose the challenge. Just south of you is a Jupiter Vase, break it for an Amulet. Then return to win the challenge. * Health Slot Challenge 9: Kill all enemies in 50 seconds Reward: Maximum Health +1 Continue left to challenge the statue of Kopis. * Full Health-Up Challenge: Kill all enemies in 110 seconds Reward: Enable Full Health up Drops Now, head through the open gate into a hall full of cocoons/eggs. Hit the last one as you pass it for an Amulet. The next area circles around itself. There is a Jupiter Vase just right of entrance with an Amulet. You will soon find a challenge circle in the wall as you pass. * Amulet Challenge 3: Kill all enemies in 75 seconds Reward: Amulet You’ll pass a blood meter refill skull and several more battles before get to a switch in a bone cage. Cross over the bridge it releases for a battle with a Fetter and an army of fire elementals. You can now either walk back or slide down the rope. At the bottom waits a challenge behind the locked gate. * Sword Challenge 3: Kill all enemies in 60 seconds with the sword Reward: Ares - Warblade of Mars Return to the caccoon/egg room, they will hatch. Kill them all and the door will open. Return to the statue of Aucus and challenge him. * Reflect Armor Challenge: Kill all enemies in 85 seconds Reward: Enable Reflect Armor Drop Run across the bridge for another Challenge. * Axe Challenge 3: Kill all enemies in 70 seconds with the axe Reward: Destructor – Axe of Devastation Continue left to be locked in a room with 2 more challenges. * Axe Gauge Challenge 3: Kill all enemies in 75 seconds with the axe Reward: Axe Fight Gauge level 3 * Gauntlets Challenge 2: Kill all foes in 90 seconds with the Gauntlets Reward: Shears of Altropos Cross the slender bridge to the lever. Battle the Lost and then pull the lever. Follow the path right as you battle until you find another challenge. * Health Slot Challenge 10: Kill all enemies in 70 seconds Reward: Maximum Health +1 Battle to the end until you release the lever from the cage. Pull it and head back the way you came and take the other path. You will have to smash all the vases you come to proceed. Do so and continue until you enter the last chamber with a lever and two more challenges. * Amulet Challenge 4: Kill all foes in 55 seconds Reward: Amulet * Health Slot Challenge 11: Kill all foes in 60 seconds Reward: Maximum Health +1 Pull the lever and jump off the right ledge to the door below. Just outside to the left is another cocoon/egg with the final Emperor’s Coin. Follow the path until you are ambushed by three fetters in a close quarter fighting area with a blood meter refill. After you defeat one, smaller enemies start appearing making even less room to fight. This is the hardest fight in the game in my opinion just because of the small fighting area and the strength of their attacks, its one of the few places I had trouble. If you can keep your hits going and keep your fight gauge high it becomes an easier battle. When its over walk up the fallen bridge for a battle with 2 more. Keep fighting your way to open the gate by the hole in the wall. As you trigger the Cyclops skeletons you will find an Amulet in the Jupiter Vase to the right of the large window. This is your last one. Keep fighting skeletons as you climb the stairs to the Boss Chamber. Boss: Deimos - God of Terror She will surround herself in darkness and float around just like her brother, but instead of direct attacks, she will summon creatures to fight you. You have to release the power of the urn in the center with the power of Pluto to make light beam down. Then hit her into it when she rest. After you knock her in once she will start calling stronger foes until you knock her in again, regaining another part of Rome’s Life force as she retreats. ** Elysium Go to the Emperor’s head by the Rome area and place the coins. It will open a new challenge in the Abode of the lost. You can find it just past Amulet challenge 3, in the rock face right by the bridge. * Gauntlets Gauge Challenge 4: Kill all foes in 60 seconds with Gauntlets Reward: Final Gauntlet Gauge You can also place your Talismans with the Head by the Lost area. It will open a new challenge in the Titan Stronghold. You can find it in the room with the lightning barrier on the left wall. * Axe Gauge Challenge 4: Kill all Enemies in 119 seconds with the axe Reward: Final Axe Gauge After placing all of the collectable treasures a tablet appears on the center platform. You will be able to choose a challenge to receive an ultimate version of your favorite weapon. Either * Axe Challenge 4: Kill all enemies in 100 seconds with the axe Reward: Annihilation * Sword Challenge 4: Kill all enemies in 90 seconds with the Sword Reward: Invictus Gladius – Sword of Vengeance * Gauntlet Challenge 4: Kill all enemies in 50 seconds with the Gauntlet Reward: Olympus Cleavers ** Level 5: The Battle of Hades When in rome, the levels are even more straight forward than the other levels. Defeat the waves of gladiators then head up the stairs. The right hall will exit the level while the left one will progress. You will find a challenge circle as you pass. * Gauntlets Challenge 3: Kill all foes in 100 seconds with Gauntlets Reward: Hades Gauntlets Jump off the floor to the left to continue. Jump to the left and pull the lever. It will snap off and you will be attacked. Defeating these will lower the gate to Charon’s Boat. You cant use it as you can’t pay the ferryman, so continue over the boat to the other side. Place the lever in the stand here to start another ambush. Defeat them for the key to the door on the left of the area. (other side of charon’s ferry) You will see a challenge on your left as soon as you enter this area. * Gauntlet Gauge Challenge 3: Kill all foes in 100 seconds with gauntlets Reward: Gauntlet Fight Gauge level 3 You will a few paths you cant take yet, a door and a bridge, head down the ramp next to the bridge to continue. Defeat these enemies for a key to the door you passed. Pull the lever there to lower the bridge. Fight until you get another key, which will unlock the door nearby. Pull that switch to raise a jump beam. Follow the path on the other side of the beam to fight for another key to unlock another gate to a lever. It will lower a bridge. Use the blood meter refill skull and smash the Herculean vases here to get Charon’s Coin and activate another ambush. Repel the attack then return to Charon’s Ferry and use the coin. On the other side of the ride, challenge the Tigris Statue. * Invincibility Challenge: Kill all foes in 85 seconds Reward: Enable Invincibility Drops Pass through the now open door. You will now face a metal works version of Cerberus. Defeat the Gladiators that come out of the heads until you get a key. Unlock the door to the gears and smash the weak support. The second set of enemies will cause a gate guarding a lever to fall. Pull it to lower the gate to another weak support. Defeating the enemies from the third head will automatically drop the gate to the final weak support. A door to the right of the lock will open revealing another challenge. * Health Slot Challenge 12: Kill all foes in 60 seconds Reward: Final Health Slot Increase Walk over the head and leap across and through the door to the next area. Defeat all the enemies to get a key to the gate. Once you get to the bottom you will find 2 locks to the left and a lock and three levers to the right. Pull each lever to get an ambush and a key reward. Use the three keys to unlock and raise the three jump beams. Once all three beams are raised return to the top and jump over the gaps to another battle and the door to proceed. Pull the lever and then take the left or right path after crossing the spiked rail. I’m heading Right. The blades will start up again as you pass. Kill all the gladiators for a key to the cage around the lever. Pull it to stop the blades and youll break it off and take it with you. Place the lever into one of the empty slots near the blades to unlock one of the spike guards to final area. Head back to the start and go down to the left to another area where you will do the same thing. Now finally take the path to the left to do it one last time. After setting the third lever, return down the left path to exit to the final area. Boss: Deimos – God of Terror Just like her brother she has gained one new power for this fight. She can not steal your health from you when she gets up from a rest only if you don’t hit her. So be sure and hit knock her down each time she rest. You will have to use the power of Jupiter to activate the urn things here. But once they are all activated the light only remains for a few minutes. So make sure you wait until she is about to rest before hitting the third one. You can not summon the light on her while she is resting, you must make it appear and then hit her into it. (this could be because the cinematic of the light appearing the first time keeps it from doing so, I never tried it on the second cycle. So if it works when you try it, great!) The level will reset and you have to do it one more time. You get the last piece of Rome’s Life force. ** Level 6: Rome This is exactly the same level you played in the introduction. Just work your way through to the coliseum. Fight the enemies that appear until you get a cutscene. Boss: Phobos and Deimos Hit Phobos twice and his sister will take his place. Use the alter than the twins have shown you to obtain the life force of Rome. After killing a few minions Phobos will appear again. When he rest knock him into his sister. He will vanish again leaving his sister to summon more minions. He’ll eventually come back and you will have to knock him into his sister again. Game Over * MISSING!?
