When you approach the statue at the end, a cut-scene will trigger. When it is over, explore the entire church to find more power glyphs - they are hidden all over the place, so look at both ends of the church and smash all the statues before progressing any further. Also, examine the big statue in the middle of the church with the o button to get more power glyphs. When you have them all, head over to the door and check it using the o button. Head over to the confession boxes and double tap X to leap on top of them. From here, grapple to the red point on the ledge above. Grapple across the gap and jump to dismount on the far side, then climb the stairs to meet Mr Hyde ======== This is your first boss, and as such, he isn't too hard to beat. Keep moving and use your tojos from close range. When he moves his arms backwards it means he is about to attack, roll backwards and switch to using your guns instead. When his attack is over, move back in again and cause more tojo damage! As long as you keep moving, firing and attacking, this battle should be over fairly quickly! Mission 1 ========= Vaseria Village From the start of the level, head back onto the platform and smash all the crates to collect more power glyphs. When you have broken them all, smash the crates in front of the door and leap up onto the roof. Explore the roof and the adjoining roof (back towards the platform) for plenty more power glyphs, and grapple up to find one half of a life increaser. Return to the ground and enchant your weapons using the L1 button, then break in the door of the building to find a cheat glyph! There's another hidden behind the broken cart next to the door too. That done, head off towards the village. The bridge is out, jump down to the left of it for more glyphs, then at the bottom head round to the cog that Van Helsing spotted from the edge of the bridge. Use it to swing the crane round, then return to the top of the bridge and swing across using the hook. Head on through to Transylvania, where you will encounter several zombies. Keep on moving and dodging in order to kill them all, making sure to make full use of Van Helsing's rolling ability during this section! Go through the gates at the end of the bridge and repeat the process with the next set of zombies you encounter. When they are dead (more dead than they were) smash all the barrels for more power glyphs then head up the stairs. Here you will find an ammunition replenish, as well as more zombies. Smash the crates for more power glyphs. Head back down the stairs and through the alley with lanterns lit on either side. Get ready to be attacked by more zombies; again, just keep rolling around and attacking with your tojo blades to kill them all. Head over to the rickety steps and drop down to the right to battle more zombies and collect power glyphs from the crates. Head on through to the next area (more zombies!) and destroy the crates. Head up the stairs to the right to find the next area. The zombies who attack here are much tougher, and there are loads of them. The best method to defeat them is to use your pistols as much as possible, and avoid getting too close. When you have sufficient energy, shift to alternative fire to take them out quicker. When the area is clear, smash the barrels, then grapple up to the open window to smash more barrels and find a shotgun. Return to ground level with the shotgun and shoot the door to reach the battle with (????) Zombie Ticket Clerk Approach the window at the train station and press CIRCLE to see why the rail service just isn't what it used to be... Life bar Increaser Once you have the shotgun, retrace your steps to the old windmill just outside the town. Blast the door to enter, then grapple up to the top to find the second half of a life bar increaser! From here, you will be able to see another half of a life bar increaser, on top of a rock pile on the far side. Wander over there and grapple up to get the second half and increase your energy! ???? This boss is a big guy with plenty of power - but he is slow moving. The shotgun doesn't do much damage against him, and the best approach is actually to use your tojo blades. Make sure they are enchanted then attack, landing two or three blows, then moving back as quickly as possible before he counters. The best way to get out of range is to roll backwards twice. If you have your life replenish and your ammo replenish left, this is an excellent time to use them! Keep on attacking then dodging before he can counter to win this battle! Mission 2 ========== Vaseria Church Stand to the left of the bridge and use the grapple to bring it down. Cross over and kill a few zombies, then head round to the right. Leap up to find another half a life reducer, then carry on through the iron gates. On the other side, kill the dragons that attack by rolling around the area and using your shotgun repeatedly, then shoot through the gate to reach the next area. Head through and turn right, then jump up to the top of the first building. From here, make your way via three grapple points to another half of a life increaser. Return to the main area and kill all the dragons, then head up the half-shattered flight of stairs and grapple up to reach a new area. Smash the barrels in this next area to find another half of a life replenish. Enter the main doors to the church, where you will run into Verona And Aleera ================= These two must be taken care of before you can battle the boss. This can result in heavy damage unless you are careful and use the shotgun from a distance. There are three attacks to look out for. The first is bolts of electricity that fire out from the pair. Should you get caught in one of these, run behind one of the pillars to break the spell as quickly as you can. The second main attack is electric bolts from above. You can see these about to form; purple 'blobs' appear on the floor. Make sure you aren't under one when it happens! The last attack is when the pair fire a shockwave at you - when this happens, roll backwards to steer clear of trouble. Keep moving and firing with the shotgun, and they should both be disposed off quite quickly, allowing you to fight Demon Marishka ============== When you finally get to battle with this boss, she proves quite a tough cookie! The best approach is to wait until she is at ground level, then to roll towards her quickly. Enchant your hand weapon, then attack her three or four times. That done, roll UNDER her, rather than away from her. She will attack the area you have just vacated and you can repeat the process. Be careful of her electricity attacks, as they can cause you damage - try to roll out of the way as quickly as you can! Mission 3 ========= Igor Search the bookcases. The third one from the left will fall away to reveal a secret door. Head through it, and go along the corridor. Blast the zombies when they appear and head on, through a circular room with more zombies. You'll find another door that can be blasted with the shotgun, revealing a cheat! Carry on along the corridor, up the stairs and through the door, blasting more zombies with the shotgun en route. Grab the crossbow at the top of the stairs and use it to kill the possessed owls that attack at the top of the stairs. When they are dead, approach the statue and shoot it with the crossbow to open the gates, On top of the nearby building, grab the life replenishes and ammo replenishes, then head through those gates. In the next area, fire and roll to kill the wraiths that attack, then follow the stream to the next section. The dragons that attack here cannot be killed with the crossbow, so switch to shotguns for maximum effect! When you can, use your grapple to climb up near the waterfall (you'll be attacked by more dragons) and then across to the far side. In the next area, kill the wraiths with your crossbow, then jump up to the platform. Use your hand weapon to knock the statue over and bridge to the next section. Here, use your shotgun to dispatch the assorted enemies, making sure to jump and roll as much as possible. That done, leap up to the platform and use your grapple to find another cheat! Head up to the top of the waterfall and around to confront Igor Igor ==== Igor attacks by throwing fireballs from the perimeter of the courtyard and has the ability to disappear and reappear in a different location. Train your sights on him straight away using the R1 button and fire away using the crossbow to cause him damage. When he attacks with his fireballs, roll away from the areas he is aiming at and get some more crossbow shots off to exact your revenge! Before long, Igor should bite the dust and worry you no more! If you are really struggling, grab the speed boost from the barrels by the gate, but you can beat Igor without it. Chapter 4 ========== Prince Velkan Arm your shotgun and head towards town - you won't be allowed to deviate from the route anyway. Blast away at any zombies who attack and head through to the area with the well. Drop into the well to discover a mysterious egg - hang onto it for a challenge!! Go through the metal gates and head through the town, where you will be attacked by Vulcan. Land a couple of blows and he will scarper. Follow him across the wooden bridge and again, you will be attacked. After a few more hits from you, Vulkan should flee, so head on through the narrow gap opposite the way you came into the area. Fight your way past more winged demons using the shotgun to meet Velkan Challenge At the wooden bridge, drop down to the left to find a receptacle for the egg you found. This will unlock hidden Challenge 4, The Maze! Velkan ======= This boss looks fearsome, but as long as you have a speed boost, he is a pussycat. Switch to the crossbow as it has a better rate of fire and get shooting! When Velkan comes close, roll away from him and don't stop until you are a safe distance away. When his health is between one half and two thirds full, use a speed boost and make use of the increased shooting speed of the crossbow to take his energy all the way down to zero! If you don't have a speed boost then the principle remains the same - keep rolling away from Velkan and using the crossbow to cause damage from range. Under no circumstances try getting close in, as the beast's superior strength will beat you every time! Mission 5 ========== Frankenstein's Castle Hack your way past the zombies and cross to the iron gates. Hack on through past more zombies using your shotgun and cross to the castle. Enter, and attack more winged demons in the courtyard. The best way to beat them is by using the grapple to pull them towards you, then a mixture of close range attacks and shotgun blasts to kill them one at a time! Next, head to the right to find more zombies and half a life bar increaser. Grab it, then head through the main castle doors. Use the crossbow to kill the goblins who attack. They are only small, but they can cause plenty of damage, so make sure that you keep moving. When they are all dealt with, head through the small doors at the foot of the stairs and fire a bolt at the statue. More goblins will attack, so use the crossbow, short ranged attacks and finishing moves for maximum effect! Climb to the next level, grab the life replenishes, then head to the platform to the right. Use a grapple and swing across, then head out of the doors and kill the goblins below from the relative safety of the ledge. Swing across the gap using a grapple and head through to another area. This is also full of goblins, so keep on with the crossbow. The best method to use is to descend the stairs part way and jump and fire like crazy. You can grab the alternative shotgun fire from this room, and a speed boost, then return to the previous chamber. Kill the goblins from the ledge, then use the alternative shotgun fire to blast the doors away and move to the next area. Kill more zombies who attack and head along the corridor, through the doors at the end. Kill more goblins jump and fire the crossbow then head through the doors at the end. Jump up onto the doorframe, then jump up to the doors above. Use the charmed shotgun to blow them away and find a half life-bar increaser. Drop into the garden and kill the zombies, then enter the house shrouded in fog. Head to the end and descend. Move along the corridor, blasting more zombies with the shotgun, then through the doors at the very end. Get ready with the crossbow for more goblins, then go through more doors to reach a green chamber. Kill the goblins, then leap onto the table and grapple upwards to meet some fiendishly tough winged demons - use the charmed shotgun and roll as much as you can! Head towards the double doors at the end and grapple up to the ledge above to get the electric gun before leaving the way you came and dropping back into the green room. Use your new toy to get rid of your enemies, and retrace your steps to the lift and leave. Leap up and into the castle again, then destroy the wraiths who attack. Shoot the generator in the first room you enter in the castle to power it up. Grab an egg from the area near the telescope if you want a secret and head back towards the room where you found the electric gun. When you reach the second generator, give it a blast with your electric gun. In the green room, kill all the goblins then leap onto the table to reach the final battle with Dracula Secret Take the egg from next to the telescope and put it into the receptacle outside the castle, near the house shrouded in fog. This will unlock Challenge 1: Knight fall! Here you must destroy all the stone knights within the time limit by dodging the attacks of the winged demons! Dracula ======= He might look tough, but Dracula is an easy boss to beat. Arm the crossbow and keep moving around the area and he will struggle to hit you at all. The ice pillars he summons are too slow to appear to even hit you unless you are standing still, and his ranged attack can be dodged with a roll. Using a speed boost in this battle is a great technique, as it makes for a very quick and easy victory! Mission 6 ========== Frankenstein Cave Head forwards and shoot the flying skulls. When they start to sparkle it means they are about to attack, so get ready to roll out of the way. When they are done, grapple up the opposite ledge, where you can drop down for half a life-bar increaser, then carry on through In the next area, there is a secret if you want it, otherwise you can just grapple across the gap and fight the flying skulls. After grappling for the third time you will be in a semi-circular passage. Follow it round to find the crossbow upgrade and a life replenishe through the far doors. Retrace your steps and grapple to the far side of the room. In the next cave, ignore the bridge and drop down to the cave floor. Battle the flying skulls and climb up to find power glyphs. Grapple across to an area to the right of the bridge to find another half life-bar increaser. Head back to the previous ledge and move to the discoloured wall at the end of the ledge. Shoot it with your charmed crossbow to reach the battle with Frankenstein Secret If you want to get another cheat glyph then drop into the pit before grappling across. Fight off the flying skulls and shoot the protected door to discover this cheat glyph! Frankenstein ============ The same principles that apply to all the bosses so far are in evidence one more with Frankenstein (even though Frankenstein was the name of the scientist - this is actually Frankenstein's monster!) He is very strong if you get too close, so maintain a safe distance and keep rolling around to prevent him getting near enough to pick you up. He summons forth electrical attacks that can be damaging, but he is very weak when it comes to defending himself from crossbow fire - especially enchanted crossbow bolts. Use your alternative fir to land as many shots on the monster as you can - combine this with a speed boot to send him to meet his maker in no time! Mission 7 ========= Return To Castle Frankenstein Kill the bats with a combination of the crossbow and plenty of rolling - they are similar to winged demons in the way that they attack so you should be able to deal with them. At the waterfall, there are some goodies in a hidden cave, so investigate the rock face behind the water. Move to the right and jump and grapple your way up the rock face, fighting more bats on the way. At the top, head along the ledge and up into the cave, battling more bats (including some demonic ones that are best dealt with using a charmed crossbow). Head on through the tunnel and outside, where you must climb up to the castle. Three werewolves attack you en route - deal with them using hand-to-hand combat and carry on up the mountain. At the top, head through the broken bars by the water outlet. Inside the castle courtyard, take on the werewolves using your crossbow (enchanted when possible), making sure to roll out of the way when the wolves attack. When they are dead, approach the fountain and examine it to find another cheat glyph. Approach the Easter egg receptacle and grapple up, then walk round the ledge and blast the doors to find another half life-bar replenishes. Return to the courtyard and enter the tower to face Velkan once more. Velkan ======= This time round, Velkan is stronger and faster. He has a powerful attack that sees him climb the walls of the turret then leap at you, so make sure that you are ready to roll away from him as soon as he starts climbing. In the meantime, let fly with a flurry of crossbow bolts, charged ones if possible - and look to use any speed boosts that you have in order to land a few extra hits! Before long, he should be beaten! Mission Seven Continued ======================= Head through the double doors, where you will be attacked by a group of werewolves. They are swine to kill; the best technique is to keep rolling around the area and using melee attacks when you are close enough. That done, smash all the crates and head up the stairs. In the next area you are attacked by bats; again, roll around and fire away with the shotgun to get rid of them. When they are gone, enchant the shotgun and fire at the doors to find a life replenish Head onto the balcony and drop down to find half a life bar increaser and be attacked by a pair of bats. When they are dealt with, grapple up to the balcony again and head up the stairs in the room you just vacated. In the next section you will be attacked by werewolves. Use the roll function to get close, then hit them with your tojos before rolling away from them again. Do NOT stay close to the door you entered from though; if you are hit by a werewolf whilst near this door, you can get knocked back into the previous room and when you re-enter, any werewolves you had previously slain will re spawn! When they are dead, approach the lift and fire at it to be whisked up to the top floor, where you will find half a life-bar increaser and a battle with Dracula ======= Where's your clove of garlic when you really need it? Dracula is the toughest boss you have faced so far and has a wide range of attacks. To start with he usually summons stalagmites of ice that burst up through the ground. As long as you keep moving, none of these should hit you. However, when he puts his arms in the air and starts to sparkle, Dracula will teleport to the point of the last icicle, so be sure to roll away before he can do so. Dracula's other attacks are nasty too. He can summon balls of ice that hover in the air around you and then attack - the best way to dodge these is to jump just before they attack (it takes good timing, but once you can do it, this is easy). His most dangerous attack by far is to cause electricity to run up and down the length of the area. To dodge it, jump into the air then jump again as the electricity comes back. It isn't at all easy, but it can be done. Of course, while all this is going on, you need to be firing away with the crossbow. Using enchantment is a very good idea as Dracula takes much more damage that way, so make the most of any ammo replenish you have to maximise the damage you can cause. Keep an eye on your health and use life bar replenish should you take too much damage, and Dracula should fall before too long. Mission Eight ============== Clear the room of goblins using your crossbow then leap into the green gloop and press the action button to find a cheat glyph! That done, head down the stairs. In the next room there are plenty of goblins that attack and you will get hurt if you try to take them all on. The best method is to simply run and jump past them, then leap through the gap on the right-hand wall to drop down to the room below. Kill or dodge the goblins, then walk into the gloop and press the action button to find the electric ammunition upgrade. This in hand, head over to the door and leave. In the next area, skulls will fire lightning at you - you can stand and fight but again, they are difficult opponents and it is often better to run past them and through to the next area. Here you face your old friends the zombies, who can easily be despatched with a shot or two from the electric gun. Leap on the lift at the end, then run out into the courtyard. The two statues come to life and attack, and you can't leave this area until they are beaten. Use the electric gun (alternative fire won't work here) and be sure to keep rolling, especially when they bash their swords on the ground - this causes stalagmites to burst through the ground in a straight line from the end of the statue's sword and if you are in the way, you'll take damage. Try to concentrate on one statue at a time, as it is easier to take one down and then the other (there are less attacks to worry about once the first statue is down). When the statues are defeated, head through the gates to escape from the castle grounds at last! Mission Nine ============ Forest path This level starts with you atop a horse-drawn carriage being attacked by two demons. The best weapon to use here is your pistols - again, enchanting them is a smart move as it does much more damage. Look out for the demons attacking the roof of the cab, and be prepared to leap into the air if they do so. Be aware that if you fire your guns whilst in the air you will stay up for longer, often dodging their attacks. If you get short of energy, you can jump to the left onto the horses' backs to find an energy sphere, and if you jump past the horses you can slide on the ground and pop up again at the back of the carriage - another way to miss those demonic attacks. Keep on blasting away with the pistols, and you will soon defeat these demons and move on to your next challenge! Velkan, your old buddy is back, and he will hit you with some big shots in this battle if you are not careful. Fortunately, it takes him a while to land a hit as he rears up onto his hind legs, so take advantage of this time to roll away from him. The best way to fight this battle is to roll and fire repeatedly, circling around Velkan all the time. Use the electric gun for best results and don't let him get too close under any circumstances. As long as you follow these simple instructions, victory should be yours before long! Mission 10 ========== Werewolf's curse Head through the doorway to find the scimitars, then head up the stairs and through the doorway. Out on the ledge, use your scimitars to defend yourself from the bats attacking you. Drop down to the floor level and grapple back up and round to reach the area with the statues. There are three statues that will attack you here - the best approach is to concentrate on them one at a time and give them plenty of stick with those scimitars. When they are gone, use the charmed shotgun to blast the base of the statue and find a cheat glyph. Jump up and head over the fallen statue to the next area. Kill the owls who attack next with your shotgun, using scimitars if they get too close, then jump up the waterfall and round to the battle with Igor Igor ==== You battle Igor again in the same courtyard as earlier, but he has a couple more attacks lined up for you. Despite this, he is actually easy to beat provided you don't fall into the trap of trying to protect your alternative ammunition. Igor drops balls of electricity into the courtyard and these fire out beams. Touch a beam and your alternative ammunition is depleted considerably. However, trying to dodge them normally means that you aren't watching Igor's other attacks and you take damage from him, and this is far more dangerous! Instead, ignore your alternative fire and settle in for the long haul instead. Keep rolling and moving around the courtyard, attacking Igor with your good old pistols. These quickly accumulate alternative ammo, so as soon as you have some, use it - those electricity beams will ensure you don't have it for long. Just keep on firing away with the pistols and concentrate only on dodging Igor's attacks. It may take a while, but he will fall eventually and victory will be yours! AN IMPORTANT NOTE HERE! After winning this battle, make sure you buy at least one life replenish in the armoury! You'll need it on the next level. Mission 11 =========== Assault on Castle Dracula First of all, make sure you reserve at least one (and preferably two or three) life replenish for the final battle on this level! Head up the slope, killing the owls that attack using your electric gun and rolling backwards to dodge their attempts to hurt you. When they are dead, use enchanted crossbow fire to break through the door to get an Easter egg. Head through the double doors and give the bats in the next room what for with the electric gun. Smash all the pots in this room for power glyphs, then head into the next room and kill the spirits who attack with your swords, or the electric gun. You will take a little damage but should be able to survive, as you ought to have a large health bar by now. When they are beaten, drop down through the floor and use your swords to kill the goblins that attack. They won't stand a chance as long as you don't let yourself become surrounded; keep them in front of you for the best results. When it is clear, fire your electric gun at the boiler on the far side (the one with the blue gasket) to start it up again and open the door on the far side. Head through and stand on the lift to reach a new area. At the top, head round the balcony and through the double doors on the far side of the area. From the balcony, swing across to the far side using the grapple, then grapple again to reach the balcony with a half life-bar increaser. Grapple back to reach the double doors and head through to a room full of goblins. Use your electric gun and keep on rolling to avoid them. Keep a safe distance to avoid getting surrounded, and roll towards then away from them to get some of the glyphs they drop before they disappear. When it is clear, approach the table at the far end to get the Gatling gun. When you have it, more goblins appear so jump over them and run back down the hall to a safe distance. From here, open fire on the goblins - roll from side to side to avoid any return fire. With the automatic fire, they should die sooner rather than later. When they are all dead, jump on the lift and head up to the next level. Shoot the wraiths with the Gatling gun, then grab the life-bar increaser and head through the doors to the next area. Kill the zombies by hacking through their cell doors, then head through the double doors. In this next area, explore each of the three rooms off the main chamber, killing the wraiths in each with the Gatling gun and using alternative fire from the electricity gun to power up the seal in each room. This causes a secret to be raised from the pool of blood! After investigating this (or leaving it if you can't be bothered or have no Easter eggs) grapple up from the pool of blood via the left- hand grapple point Head out of the door and use your Gatling gun (what a weapon!) to kill the statues that attack in pairs. When they raise their swords above their heads, get ready to jump out of the way of the blast they unleash (or roll, but you must be fast!) Once they are dead, you will face a battle against demon Aleera. Secret Insert an Easter egg into the font that rises from the blood in the wraith chamber to unlock Challenge 3, bloodbath! Here, you must jump up the walls using the platforms to avoid the ever-rising blood! Demon Aleera ============= Remember you were told to make sure you had at least one, and preferably two life replenish left? Well, this is why! Aleera is remarkably tough. Don't engage her on the narrow part of the bridge, but try to get to the end where you have more space to roll around. Fight her by allowing her to attack, but roll out of the way at the last minute. When she turns to find you, try to sneak behind her and use your tojos to give her three hits - no more! That done, roll away and concentrate on dodging her next attack. She will hit you from time to time - it is unavoidable - but you should have at least one life replenisher left. Make the most of it by using it when your life bar is critically low, and not before! Mission 12 ========== Dracula's Demise Head up the stairs and kill the monsters that attack you with your Gating gun. Head onto the platform and use alternative ammo to power up the gate, leading to the Gating gun ammo upgrade. Once you have it, carry on up the stairs and head through the door. On the top of the tower, jump off the part where the demons are flying out and kill all the demons who attack by giving it plenty with the Gating gun. The electricity bolts they fire at you are quite slow, so they can be dodged with a well-timed roll. When they are all dead, head down the stairs on the outside, and back down to the bottom of the tower, where the membrane has been broken. Jump down into the gap to do battle with Demon Dracula After all the palaver of getting here, the Demon Dracula is actually very easy to beat. Arm your Gating gun and let fly with a volley of bullets. Whenever you max out your alternative ammunition, switch to it to cause extra damage to Dracula. All of his attacks can be evaded by using the same tactics - namely rolling out of the way. Before you know it, Dracula will be vanquished and you will be the hero of the day - though not for long, as Van Helsing is about to show his true colours ********************************************************************* Legal Information: ********************************************************************* This may be not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal, private use.
